MORE ON THE MIZZOU FALLOUT

Just how bad is the fallout from the University of Missouri’s Academic Brownshirts’ essentially taking over the campus last year, and forcing resignations out of its President and Chancellor over three or four alleged “racial incidents” (in a school of over 30,000) – none provable, one off campus altogether – and none having anything to do with the administration?

Here’s your answer, via excerpts from Koran Addo’s article for the Saint Louis Post-Dispatch:

This fall could mark the smallest class of incoming freshmen at the University of Missouri-Columbia in nearly a decade as the school continues to lose students, partly because of last fall’s protests.

The university on Wednesday announced the amount of students paying freshman tuition deposits — a key indicator of coming enrollment — has decreased by 1,470 compared to last year.

It’s nearly 600 fewer students than what was projected in February, when the university was estimating 900 fewer incoming freshmen.

There are also millions of dollars less in donations from alumni to go with the dropoff in new students.

And if that wasn’t enough, according to Jillian Kay Melchior’s article at heatst.com:

Mizzou also reported a three-year low in grad-school applications, down 1,140 from two years ago. The number of new students shrunk even as the university has embarked on an aggressive effort to drum up interest in the school, using text messages and Skype and deploying more out-of-state recruiters.

Here’s how steep that drop is: Fox Sports’ Clay Travis writes that “the only comparable undergraduate enrollment decline in recent decades that I can find at any major college or university is Tulane University the year after Hurricane Katrina.”

I would like to take this opportunity to extend my congratulations to the University of Missouri, and its Academic Brownshirts.

What a great job you have done by taking a few incidents which, even if they took place, would amount to virtually nothing on a university of this size, and blowing it up into a fifth degree maelstrom.   I mean, look at how much impact you have had.

What a great triumph for you.  And what great preparation for when you leave the fantasy-world bubble you have created and try dealing with the real world.
