According to an article in Time Magazine, there were 468 murders in Chicago in 2015 compared with 416 the year before, a 12.5% increase.
CBS News is reporting that, in Chicago this weekend, another 6 people were shot to death and 14 injured.
So far in 2016, 72 have been shot dead. Projecting that over a year would generate 585, another 25% increase.
My question to advocates of stricter gun control laws: How many of the murderers do you think were using legally obtained guns, they were in legal possession of?
It is a good bet that the answer is almost none at all.
Personally, I support strict gun control laws which make it harder for undesirables to get guns, and which make it worth illegal gun owners\’ whiles to think twice before carrying and/or using them.
But I also understand that the legal limitations of gun ownership and the illegal use of guns are two separate issues. And that politicians whose answer to illegal gun use is stricter gun control laws are jerking their constituents around to get brownie points, while doing nothing to solve the problem.
I hope the above statistics bring that point home.
