THE FEBRUARY 11 DEMOCRAT DEBATE

Ken Berwitz

Did you watch last night\’s Democrat debate between the typically rumpled Bernie Sanders and the oddly dressed Hillary Clinton (whose top looked like a combination Mao jacket and rain slicker)?

Two hours of “I can give you more free stuff than she can” and “No, I can give you more free stuff than he can”, peppered with the accumulation of an enemies list – Wall Street, Insurance companies, the police, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. – that would make Richard Nixon green with envy.

My favorite exchange of the night:

Clinton:  “The kind of criticism that we\’ve heard from Senator Sandersabout our president I expect from Republicans.  I do not expect fromsomeone running for the Democratic nomination to succeed President Obama.”

Sanders:  “Madam Secretary, that is a low blow.  Do senators have the right to disagree with the President? Have you everdisagreed with a President?  I suspect you may have.  One ofus ran against Barack Obama. I was not that candidate.”

Game, set, match.

I\’ll finish with the first two paragraphs of John Podhoretz\’s piece in today\’s New York Post, which sum the debate up beautifully:

The message from Thursdaynight\’s Democratic debate is that everybody in America should get on aleaky rowboat and find somewhere, anywhere, else in the world to live – becauselife in the United States is a nightmare from which millionaires andbillionaires and the Koch brothers and the Republicans will not allow us toawake.

The two candidates for the Democratic nomination spent mostof two hours arguing over who was the better diagnostician of the moraldiseases, ideological calamities, spiritual infirmities, racial injustices anddownright evils that are being visited upon the suffering 320 million who havefound themselves through no fault of their own trapped between two oceans in adystopian oligarchic hell they call America.

Yep.  With all of this said to two overtly partisan Democrat “moderators” and a cheering partisan crowd.

Welcome to today\’s Democrat Party….and welcome to today\’s “journalism”.
