ELIZABETH: THERE GOES THE BIG ONE

Ken Berwitz

“Elizabeth, here comes the big one”:  Fred Sanford, portrayed by the great Redd Foxx, clutching his chest and calling out to his late wife, to show how serious his situation was.

Suppose Elizabeth Warren came out in support of Hillary Clinton?  Would that benefit her among the left wing of the Democrat Party – which, these days, is an extremely (and I do mean extremely) hefty wing?  Would it encourage voters who are leaning toward the self-professed socialist, Bernie Sanders, to reconsider Ms. Clinton?  The answer, it would seem self-evident, is yes.

But Elizabeth Warren has not come out in support of Hillary Clinton.  And, at this point, even if she did it would be so late that the support would seem forced and insincere.

Why not?

Well, here is an insight, from an interview Ms. Warren conducted with the even-more-leftward Bill Moyers which I pulled from Paul Mirengoff\’s piece at powerlineblog.com:

WARREN: One of the first bills that came up after she wasSenator Clinton, was the bankruptcy bill. This is a bill that\’s like a vampire,it will not die right, there\’s a lot of money behind it.

MOYERS: Bill her husband had vetoed [it].

WARREN: Her husband had vetoed it very much at her urging.

MOYERS: And?

WARREN: She voted in favor of it.

MOYERS: Why?

WARREN: As Senator Clinton, the pressures are verydifferent. It\’s a well-financed industry. You know a lot of people don\’trealize that the industry that gave the most money to Washington over the pastfew years was not the oil industry, was not pharmaceuticals, it was consumercredit products. Those are the people, the credit card companies have beengiving money and they have influence.

MOYERS: And Mrs. Clinton was one of them as senator.

WARREN: She has taken money from the groups and more to thepoint, she worries about them as a constituency.

Translation:  Hillary Clinton did a right wing u-turn on the bankruptcy bill when she became a senator, because there was $$$ and political influence in it for her.

Any doubt about how that would sit with the hard-left Elizabeth Warren (who, it should be noted, plays the left-wing game but is a millionaire many times over, just like Hillary).

Little wonder that Ms. Warren, though not endorsing Bernie Sanders, would sit on her hands when it comes to Hillary Clinton.

So where\’s the lifeboat going to come from?  Evidently not Elizabeth Warren.

Somewhere in the ether, Redd Foxx (whose real name was Sanford, by the way) and Elizabeth both, are probably clutching not their chests, but their bellies, laughing.
