If you’re not a football fan, this might not mean much to you. But if you are – or if you aren’t, but find amazingly delusional attitudes amusing – you’ll get a kick (a punt?) out of this one.
From Jahaura Michelle’s article at blavity.com:
Colin Kaepernick wants another opportunity to play in the NFL and has set his sights on competing in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
In a recent interview with Sky Sports, Kaepernick revealed that he is “still training” in hopes of receiving a call that brings him back to the field.
“We’re still training, still pushing,” he told the outlet. “So hopefully we just gotta get one of these team owners to open up.”
Kaepernick was optimistic when asked about a possible appearance playing flag football at the 2028 Olympics.
“Hopefully we’ll be out there,” Kaepernick said. “We’re gonna work on some things, see if we can make it in there. But we’d love to be out there.”
If you are an avid football fan, you are probably laughing already.
If you aren’t, let me tell you why the avid football fan probably is:
-Colin Kaepernik is a former NFL Quarterback. In November he will be 39 years of age.
-He was dumped by the San Francisco 49ers after the 2016 season because, after a promising first few years, he became both a major loser (his won-lost record in his last two years were 2-6, then 1-10 – a total of 3 – 16) and a PR disaster (kneeling while the National Anthem was playing).
-Not surprisingly, the ugly won-lost record and controversial behavior made him anathema to other teams, and no one else picked him up.
Bottom line, therefore: Colin Kaepernik is an almost-39 year old guy (the average age of an NFL quarterback is 28), with a godawful won-lost record for his last two years, and a significant PR issue, who has not played in the NFL for a decade…
…who apparently has convinced himself that NFL teams would be interested in him now. And the 2028 Olympics would be too – when he would be almost 41 years of age
If that isn’t the laugh of the day, what is?
