THE QUOTE OF THE DAY

Today’s quote comes to us from Texas State Representative James Talarico, the Democrat candidate for U.S. Senate.

If a couple of recent polls are accurate, Talarico is either running even or slightly ahead of his Republican challenger, state Attorney General Ken Paxton.

But those polls were run before the following became known.

According to a September 1 article at CNN (the article is behind a pay wall, but you can read the relevant contents here), during his first term as a State Representative, Talarico participated in a forum run by the Austin Sierra Club.  During this event, he was asked about the effects of climate change on minority communities.

Talarico’s answer?

“I am so thankful that you asked this question, and also thankful that young activists have really drawn the link between climate change and White supremacy and capitalism in our country.  And I think only ending the ways that all three of those oppressive systems work together, are we going to be able to begin the process of dismantling them.”

Climate change is the result of White Supremacy?  Capitalism is an oppressive system that we should be dismantling?

Keep in mind that this forum took place in 2020.  So Talarico has had 6 years to either take those comments back.  To claim it was a misrepresentation.  To separate himself from connecting climate change to White supremacy and from talking up the benefits of dismantling the system our country runs on.  But he has not done so.

Would you believe him if now, 6 years later, he tries to duck away from what he said then?

I award James Talarico Quote Of The Day honors for so candidly telling us of his proactive interest in ridding the country of how it has functioned for the past 250 years…which he has never, to my knowledge walked back in any way.

August polls notwithstanding, now that these comments have become known, can you really see this guy winning a statewide race for the U.S. senate in Texas?  If so, I admire your imagination level.
