THE END OF THE PENNY (AND ARE NICKELS ON LIFE SUPPORT?)

Yesterday, some number of pennies were minted in Philadelphia.

That was it.  That’s the end.  No more pennies to be minted ever.

Why?   One key reason – presumably the biggest one – is that it costs about 4 cents to mint each penny.

Does that mean that famous song from years ago will have to change its name to “Nickels From Heaven”?  If so, I suggest you use your umbrellas, because nickels are much bigger and might hurt your head.

Then again, since nickels cost about 14 cents each to mint, does that mean they’re next?

We’ll see…..
