I know the above blog title can be taken as wild exaggeration. But I am not exaggerating. These riots, and Democrats’ reactions to them, have the potential to end the Democrat Party as we know it.
Let’s start with public opinion. Every poll I have seen shows a large majority of the public, including a significant majority of self-identified Democrats, want illegal aliens deported. This, of course, is before the riots that have overtaken downtown Los Angeles.
Now let’s talk about the riots themselves. Who has done what to try to quell them?
Over the past days, illegals and their supporters – many waving flags of foreign countries (mostly Mexico but others as well) – have taken over the streets of downtown Los Angeles. It has become so bad that Even the Los Angeles Police Chief, Jim McDonnell, has stated “This thing has gotten out of control”.
And what have Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and California Governor Gavin Newsom done to stop this from happening? Virtually nothing, that’s what. Even as these anarchists have closed down major roads, vandalized property and attacked what law enforcement has been deployed.
But what have these geniuses had to say when President Trump called in the National Guard?
Harris, and Newsom, and a bunch of other hard-left Democrats, have not only downplayed the carnage we all are seeing in real time, but instead of attacking the illegals who took over the streets, they are attacking President Trump.
Want the proof? Look at these excerpts from Brittany Chain and Elena Salvoni’s article for London’s Daily Mail (No, NOT the hopelessly hard-left Los Angeles Times). And please pay special attention to the part I have put in bold print:
Donald Trump declared ‘bring in the troops’ and called for the arrest of anyone wearing face masks as violent clashes between law enforcement and protesters rocked Los Angeles overnight.
Rioters set fire to driverless cars, looted stores, driven motorcycles at lines of cops and created blockades to grind downtown LA to a complete halt as the chaos in the city stretched into its third day.
In one vicious attack, officers were trapped under an overpass on the 101 Freeway while protesters lobbed fiery missiles and rocks from above.
Elsewhere, riot police rained rubber bullets and tear gas on demonstrators.
The protests exploded on Friday after a series of deportation raids in predominantly Latino neighborhoods.
Trump said around 300 National Guard troops were deployed with another 1,700 due to arrive on Monday. The US Northern Command said around 500 Marines were on standby.
California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass blasted Trump for what they call a heavy-handed response. They insist the protesters were mostly ‘peaceful’ – despite photos and videos showing total anarchy unfolding in the streets.

Got that? Los Angeles is overtaken by anarchic illegal aliens, but the city’s mayor and state’s governor are not coming down on the anarchic illegals, they are coming down on the President who is trying to prevent it from happening.
And what has been the reaction of other Democrats – key Democrats – to this violent, America-last anarchy? Well, here’s a statement issued from former Vice President/presidential candidate Kamala Harris:
So bringing in the National Guard to quell currently uncontained riots is nothing more than an escalation to produce chaos. Stopping anarchists from taking over the streets, destroying property, mass vandalization, etc. is nothing more than stoking fear. Oh, and by the way, none of what you are seeing on TV is actually happening. It’s all been overwhelmingly peaceful.

Did Rep. Jeffries express similar regard for the constitution/federal law as millions and millions of illegals were allowed to come into the country during the Biden administration? Has he ever said a negative word about “sanctuary city” or “sanctuary state” policies – which have exactly zero legal status according to federal law? Nope, not a word.
And, at least to this moment, not a word from Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer either.
So, as Los Angeles is overtaken by illegal aliens demanding that we forgo our immigration laws – which the public is solidly against – the only culprits leading Democrats seem able to find is the guy who is trying to DO something about it.
If ever there was a tailor-made issue Republicans can and most assuredly will use for the 2026 midterm elections and beyond, this is it.
Poll after poll has shown that the Democrat Party was already on the ropes, for a variety of reasons; that they were losing so-called “working people”, and had diminished support from Black and Latino voters; both of them voter blocs Democrats have counted on for many years.
And now this????
Something has got to change for the Democrat Party to regain its viability. Something major.
Is it even possible that the party can manage to accomplish such change? That clearly is in doubt.
But here’s something that isn’t in doubt, at least not to me: unless/until it reinvents itself in a way that is salable to the general voting public – not just a bunch of safe congressional districts and a few solidly blue states – the future of the Democrat Party as a viable national party is very much in jeopardy.
