This latest installment of the Real Racism series is out of Seattle, Washington. It is another example of what, I assume is a well-meaning attempt at “being nice” which, in actuality, perpetuates what I call the Inferiority Continuum.
Here, from Rachel Bowman’s article for London’s Daily Mail, via msn.com, is the headline, sub-head summary and first couple of paragraphs:
Seattle closes gifted and talented schools because they had too many white and Asian students, with consultant branding black parents who complained about move
- Seattle ended its gifted and talented program due to racial inequities
- Teachers are now required to make individual learning plans for all students
- Some parents fear their students will get left behind and slow their progress
Seattle has shuttered its gifted and talented programs because the school board determined they had too many white and Asian students.
The district began phasing out its Highly Capable Cohort schools and classrooms for advanced students in the 2021-22 school year because they found it had too many racial inequities. School bosses said black and Hispanic students were underrepresented at the schools.
Got that? A program for students who excel is shut down. Why? Because there are too many of this race and not enough of that race.
Were the criteria for being in this school different by race? Were Black and Hispanic students given a harder entry test? Whites and Asians given an easier one? No, no and no. This is the way it fell out.
So what, in the view of Seattle’s so-called education system, is the answer? Is it programs designed to upgrade performance among Black and Hispanic students?
Nope. The answer is to get rid of the “gifted and talented” program. Now no students who excel, regardless of their race or ancestry, are given the opportunity to excel.
Yep, that equalizes things all right.
And all in the name of racial equity.
Tell me: do you think disallowing especially good students to excel advances racial equity? Do you think that if the reason for closing down a program is specifically on the backs of the Black and Hispanic communities it will improve race relations? Do you think it will lower racial intolerance or raise it?
I assume you know the answer to every one of those questions. And I can only hope you find them as appalling as I do.
It’s the “Inferiority Continuum” at work again.
And what is the Inferiority Continuum?
-You take children from given communities (usually Black and Hispanic) and put them in schools that are not teaching them.
-You allow children in those schools who disrupt and disallow others from learning to stay in class (this is supposed to demonstrate racial equity), so every student who wants to learn has little chance to do so.
-You send them through from elementary to high school regardless of whether they have learned (which explains why so many inner city schools have so few students who are proficient – not excellent, just proficient – in basic skills like reading and math).
-You send them out into the world only minimally capable of functioning productively.
-Then, to compensate for their lack of functional skills, you create so-called Diversity Equity Inclusion (DEI) programs to give them jobs based not on their ability to perform those jobs, but on the premise that, because they are minorities, they should just get them anyway.
-And for those who can’t, or won’t, take the DEI jobs, you give them maximum opportunity to bypass functioning productively, by telling them they will have no problem stealing what they need or want rather than working and paying for it, and if they are caught nothing will happen to them. You also defund/demoralize the police, who won’t bother to do anything about these crimes since a) nothing will happen to the perpetrators and b) if they do anything wrong in apprehending one of the lawbreakers they will most assuredly pay for it.
This is the Inferiority Continuum.
This is supposed to make things equal.
This is supposed to “equate” the races.
This is supposed to promote and sustain racial tolerance. This is supposed to make Black and Hispanic people feel good about themselves. This is supposed to make White and Asian people feel good about Black and Hispanic people.
To believe that, you’d have to be either a complete idiot, or someone so taken in by the hard-leftists who have created the cesspool described above that reality doesn’t matter.
What it does do is – at every step of the way – treat Black and Hispanic people as inferior beings. As people who cannot rise to the standards of Whites and Asians, so they have to be “given” things to create the appearance of equality.
Oh, and – as nothing more than an incidental side-effect I’m sure – it creates a bloc of minorities who are dependent on government…thus, who will, of course, vote for the political party that promises to give them the most stuff, regardless of whether it has actually been earned in any way.
If there is a greater injustice to Black and Hispanic people, a more overt way of treating them like inferior beings instead of equals, I’d like to know what it is. Because I can’t think of one.
And don’t think that they don’t know it.
Why do you think that charter schools, when they are created, are almost immediately overbooked? Because most Black and Hispanic parents want for their children exactly what other parents do. They want them to do well and succeed…
…which then leads to the question of why public school unions – and a good many politicians who “represent” (if you can call it that) the areas where they live, are so adamantly against charter schools.
I’ll leave it to you to figure that one out. I doubt it will be much of a problem.
Real Racism. It can come in any form from any source. No one is immune to it or from it – certainly not Black and Hispanic people whose lives are being ruined by people who intentionally saddle them with “you’re inferior so we’ll give you things” status – by people whose only real concern about them is on election day.
