THE QUOTE OF THE DAY

Today’s quote comes to us from Li Zehua.

I’m guessing most readers do not know who this is.  FYI, Li Zehua is a Chinese journalist who, earlier this year, started reporting on the credibility of China’s claims about how many people had contracted/died from COVID-19…

…and suddenly, along with the few others who were courageous enough to do the same, suddenly disappeared from view.  In his case, he was detained by Chinese authorities.

According to Lily Kuo’s article in London’s Guardian:

A Chinese citizen journalist who was missing for almost two months after posting videos from Wuhan during the coronavirus outbreak has re-appeared, claiming that he was detained by police and forcibly quarantined.

Li Zehua was one of three Chinese journalists who had been reporting from the front lines in Wuhan during some of the worst weeks of the epidemic. He was last seen on 26 February after posting a video in which he was chased by a white SUV and an hours-long live-stream that ended when several agents entered his apartment.

After making it back to his apartment, he saw uniformed police and staff in protective suits knocking on the doors of his neighbours. Li turned the lights off and sat quietly in front of his computer for hours, waiting. Three hours later, a knock came.

At least three men entered his apartment, identifying themselves as public security. Li then went with them to a local police station where he was told he was being investigated on charges of disrupting public order.

Well, Li Zehua has now reappeared.  And – wonder of wonders, miracle of miracles – he has just wonderful things to say about the authorities who detained him and the Chinese government:

From a video posted on youtube.com, Li now tells us:

“Throughout the whole time, the police acted civilly and legally, making sure I had rest and food. They really cared about me.”

“May God bless China and the people of the world unite”

Gee, what possibly could have caused this wonderful, inspiring paean to the people who put him into custody after reporting something other than the party line?

Anyone have any doubt about the answer?

I award Li Zehua Quote Of The Day honors, for reminding us of what happens to someone in a freedomless communist country which exercises full control over information, if he dares to speak out honestly…..and for showing us what almost two months of “they really cared about me” detention by authorities will do to his willingness to talk honestly.
