You had to know this was going to happen.
You had to know that the ebola scare (heading rapidly toward a panic), driven by a combination of the lack of any preparedness on the part of the CDC, the absurd lies of its Director, thomas freiden (who should already have either resigned or been fired), and the refusal of Barack Obama to halt flights into and out of West Africa, where it is proliferating….
….would be blamed, by Democrats, on Republicans.
You did know that, didn\’t you?
Today\’s quote comes to us from barbra streisand – who, as a political analyst and honest arbiter of reality, is….a great singer.
Writing at the Huffington Post,. while in the middle of a general rant about what terrible people Republicans are compared to her sainted Democrats, here is what streisand has to say about ebola:
“Bythe way, if not for Republicans austere budget cuts, the NIH couldhave possibly had an Ebola vaccine by now.”
That so, babs? Well, let\’s look at the record.
In 2000, the year before George Bush became President (a fact you bitterly lament in your screed), The National Institute of Health (NIH) had a budget of $17,813,739,000. In 2008, his last year in office, it was $29,319,954,000. And most of that time (all but the last two years) both the house and senate were controlled by Republicans.
Still sure about your, er, “facts”, pussycat?
Well, let\’s continue. in 2009, the first year of the Obama administration – in which both the house and senate were 60% Democrat, and therefore your beloved party controlled everything – the NIH budget was $30,206,690,000. And now, in 2013 – with Mr. Obama President and the senate controlled by Democrats every day of his administration – the budget is $29,129,095,000.
(Hold on , yentl: before you tell me that the lion\’s share of the rise in NIH funding in the Bush years must have taken place during the two years Democrats held the House and Senate…don\’t bother. In 2006, the last year of Republican control, NIH funding had already risen to $28,532,979,000. In other words, virtually the entire rise in funding occurred with Republicans running the show.)
What does that translate into percentage-wise? Put your calculator away, funny girl — I\’ll do the calculating for you.
-Under President Bush and a mostly Republican-controlled congress, the NIH budget increased by 64%.
-Under President Obama, with a completely Democrat-dominated congress for his first two years, and Democrat control of the Senate throughout his presidency, the NIH budget decreased by 4%.
So which administration gave the NIH more money? Bush\’s (a 64% increase) or Obama\’s (a 4% decrease)?
Uhhhhhh, let\’s see. take 64, add 4, carry the 11, divide by 4.3, multiply by…….I think I\’ve got it. A 64% increase gives NIH more than a 4% decrease. Whew, that was a tough one.
I award barbra streisand Quote Of The Day honors for proving – again – that she is just as much a complete, unadulterated dupe of the Democrat Party now, as she has been for as long as I can remember.
Way to go babs. Maybe you can update one of your hit songs to describe your commentary on NIH: You can title it “The Way It Wasn\’t”
