Today\’s Quote Of The Day comes to us from former President Bill Clinton. While campaigning for incumbent Democrat Senator Mark Pryor in Arkansas, Mr. Clinton had this to say about the economy:
“Theyare really running against the president, aren\’t they? They see thesepolls, the President is unpopular in Arkansas and, yeah, the economyis coming back but nobody believes it yet because you don\’t feel it.”
Nice try, sir.
The reason “you don\’t feel it” is because….let me give you an explanation you\’ll be comfortable with….it all depends on what “it” is.
If a man who was out of work for months, maybe years, takes a part-time job so that, however meager or insufficient, something is coming into the household, his family and friends do not react by saying “There you go, another job created by the Obama administration”. They say “Did you hear about Tom? He gave up trying to get full time work and took a job at the local convenience store, so something was coming into the household”.
That job does not make them smile happily and be less worried about Tom and his family because he has found work. It makes them more worried about Tom and his family, because the best he can find is less than he needs.
I award former President Clinton Quote Of The Day honors for his attempt, however unsuccessful, to…what\’s a good expression his Arkansas background would cause him to understand? Oh, yeah…to paint lipstick on this razorback of an economy.
It\’s still a razorback, Mr. President.
