MICHAEL BROWN UPDATE: WAS HE A ROBBERY SUSPECT?

According to Aleksander Chan\’s article at the decidedly liberal web site gawker.com, Michael Brown – and Dorian Johnson – the friend who was with him when he was shot and killed by (we now know to be) Officer Darren Wilson  – were prime suspects in a convenience store robbery earlier on the day of the shooting.

Use the above link to see both the police report and the store\’s surveillance video.

Then, please keep in mind that, if this is true, Dorian Johnson lied when he said he met up with Johnson while he was walking home — which, obviously, makes his account of what happened when the police confronted Brown (“\’I don\’t have a gun, stop shooting!” Johnson recalled Brown saying with his hands in the air. Johnson said the officer then fired several more shots.”) completely worthless.

If this is true, Michael Brown starts to look like a new version of Trayvon Martin – who was initially portrayed as just an innocent kid on his way home from the store with iced tea and skittles, but who turned out to be a three-times-suspended student, who had possession of women\’s jewelry he could not explain how he got, and who went to the store to buy not iced tea, but ingredients which are mixed with codeine cough syrup to make a quick-high drink called “sizzurp” (or “lean”, or “drank”).

I\’ll blog about subsequent information as it comes out….which, I am now certain, it will.

UPDATE:  According to police chief Thomas Jackson, the incident between Officer Wilson and Michael Brown, which resulted in Brown being shot and killed, was unrelated to Brown\’s stealing from a convenience store and, in the course of doing so, roughing up the owner (in this regard, please note that Brown is being described as 6\’4″ and about 300 pounds.  As the surveillance footage shows, this means he towered over the owner).

Chief Jackson tells us that Brown and his friend were approached by the police because they were walking in the middle of the street and blocking traffic.
Do we know this account of what happened is true? (For that matter, do we know for sure the suspect in that video surveillance tape is Brown?)   No we do not, any more than we know any of the other accounts were true.
I\’m still hoping for video footage (preferably video of the entire confrontation, not just part of it which might then be taken out of context):  if we had that it could clear things up.   But in the absence of such video, we will never know for sure what actually happened.

FURTHER UPDATE:  Interesting demonstration of how “reliable” the eye-witnesses are for this incident.
Several people have come forward and told news media that the person shown physically attacking the store clerk is not Michael Brown – and, as proof, claim the pictures of Brown\’s body show a different physical shape and different clothing.
However, it turns out that Dorian Johnson, Brown\’s friend – who initially claimed he met up with Brown while he was walking in the street – has now admitted that he was with Brown in the store (probably because Brown is shown on the video tape stealing the $48.99 box of cigars and physically attacking the owner, not Johnson, so he doesn\’t have to worry about being charged with a crime).
