From Joshua Berlinger and Taehoon Lee’s article at cnn.com:
South Korea strengthened the deployment of a controversial US-made missile defense system and launched a huge show of military might on Monday in response to North Korea’s hydrogen bomb test.
How did things get to this point?
The answer: for almost a quarter century U.S. Presidents figured out ways of pretending it wasn’t getting to this point.
Now, the four Presidents responsible – all of them still alive – can sit back and armchair quarterback President Trump’s decisions as he deals with the mess they combined to create. This is especially true of Jimmy Carter who, as an ex-President with no authority, cooked up a “deal” in 1994 to give North Korea nuclear capability, and Bill Clinton who, as President at that time, was naive and incompetent enough to go along with it.
You have my ironclad guarantee that whatever Mr. Trump does will be vulnerable to major criticism…and that criticism is exactly what he will get for it, with minumum “credit” given to the architects of the genuinely dangerous problem he is stuck with trying to address.
