ERIKA D. SMITH AND THE RATIONALE FOR “ANTIFA”

I just read a commentary by one Erika D. Smith, who is an Associate editor and editorial writer for the Sacramento Bee.

And I am cringing at the fact that she holds these positions.

Why?  Well, you can read her entire apologia for “antifa” by clicking here.  But let me show you just a segment:

So the anti-fascists are bad, right? They’re all thugs and idiots who wear masks and carry shields, and deserve to be denounced and locked up?

Not so fast.

I certainly don’t agree with every violent tactic employed by antifa. But I also spent years living in a state where far too many people bury guns in their yard, join militias and are stockpiling hollow-point bullets, helmets and bulletproof vests in preparation for “the revolution.” I know these people. I even count some of the non-racist ones as friends – although since Donald Trump got elected, we haven’t been on the best of speaking terms. But that’s another story.

Point is, I understand why the antifa movement exists and why it must continue to exist, belligerent though it may be. The violent fascism that they rail against is real – and it’s not, as so many Americans would like to believe, a threat that’s just on the fringes.

Where I draw the line, however, is with antifa’s supposed mission of “defending” the good people of California.

Give me a break. Why do we, the lucky residents of the bluest of blue states, need a black-clad army of militants to come to our rescue when every branch of government is dominated by Democrats? And not just any Democrats, but progressive Democrats.

Let’s start with a quick education for Ms. Smith:  the fact that a group calls itself anti-fascist does not mean it is anti-fascist.  “Antifa” is about as fascist as it gets.

Next, a question:  assuming Ms. Smith’s assessment of her last place of residence is correct, how does that translate into support for the existence of a violent fascist group?  Why is one better than the other?

And now we come to my favorite part;  where Ms. Smith informs us that her real problem with “antifa” is not that it is a bunch of black-clad, masked, violent fascists.  That’s just fine with her.

No, Ms. Smith’s problem is that, since “progressive” (read that as hard-left) Democrats are in complete charge of the state, “antifa” is not necessary.

In other words,  it is necessary in places where the hard-left does not run things…presumably because “antifa” will help to facilitate the takeover of hard-left Democrats there as well.  See, then a violent mob of black-clad, masked thugs is okey-dokey.

And this hopelessly partisan, violent fascist-supporting fool writes editorials for the Sacramento Bee????  Is instrumental in putting together the paper’s opinions – on subjects such as “antifa”?

Give me strength.
