Today’s quote comes to us from Joe Scarborough, the former Republican who, as an MSNBC host, has crossed the Rubicon and now appears to be in a competition with Chris Matthews to see who can make the most ridiculous comments on a cable news show.
The following vicious personal attack on Kellyanne Conway is from this morning’s show:
“Kellyanne Conway again just doing the inexplicable, saying the inexplicable, saying things, Kasie Hunt, that make my teeth hurt when she is so stupid that they make my teeth hurt, not her, but the words that come out of her mouth when she’s spinning, talking about how Bob Mueller has given to Democrats.
“Take all of Bob Mueller’s entire team, and they haven’t given as much money to Democrats as Donald Trump and his former communications director Anthony Scaramucci, who he hired while making the complaints. They’ve supported Obama. They’ve supported Clinton. They’ve supported Schumer. They’ve supported the DNC, paid hundreds of thousands of dollars. Bob Mueller hasn’t paid that much. So that makes no sense.”
OK, let’s think about this.
First of all, the person he is calling stupid happens to be the woman who ran a successful campaign for, arguably, the single most unelectable candidate in presidential history. Did she accomplish this because she was stupid?
Next, let’s talk about the premise of Scarborough’s comments – that, since Trump (and Scaramucci) have contributed to Democrats in the past, they have no basis for complaining that Independent Counsel Robert Mueller is stacking his staff with contributors to Democrats in general and Trump’s opponent, Hillary Clinton, in particular.
Is Scarborough calling Trump a Democrat? Or does he understand that, whatever Trump was and whomever he contributed to in the past, he is a Republican now?
Trump and Scaramucci were not complaining about members of Meuller’s staff who, years ago, had contributed to Democrats and are now demonstrably nonpartisan. They were complaining about members of Mueller’s staff who CURRENTLY are Democrat supporters and donors; who CURRENTLY are Hillary Clinton supporters and donors. Exactly the people who shouldn’t be within 100 miles of this investigation.
If you want stupid, you can start with anyone who can’t see the difference between those two circumstances.
And then there is the fact that, for the last half year, Scarborough and his co-host – who also is his fiancé – Mika Brzezinski, have specifically, intentionally banned Kellyanne Conway from their “Morning Joe” show.
So by attacking her this way, Scarborough gives Conway no opportunity to respond to his audience.
It’s a lot easier to attack someone who is denied the chance to fight back, isn’t it Joe? What a big man that makes you.
I award Joe Scarborough Quote Of The Day “honors” for showing so clearly what a complete horse’s ass he has become.
And I congratulate Kellyanne Conway for being the recipient of his bilious comments, on the grounds that it could have been worse; it could have been from someone worth taking more seriously.
