Paul Ryan has joined a small, but high profile number of Republicans who are either making their displeasure with his candidacy clear or not backing him outright (count Mitt Romney and both President Bush’s among them).
Ryan’s comment,
“I am not ready to support Donald Trump…What Republicans want to see is that we have a standard bearer that bears our standards, I think conservatives want to know, does he share our values and our principles?”…
Was this supposed to impress Trump? Make him think twice about his maverick campaign? Make him realize that he has to go along to get along?
Well, Trump’s answer, in the form of a written statement, included these words:
“I am not ready to support Speaker Ryan’s agenda….Perhaps in the future we can work together and come to an agreement about what is best for the American people. They have been treated so badly for so long that it is about time for politicians to put them first.”
What Paul Ryan fails to realize is that he, and others like him, are the REASON Trump has become the party’s presumptive nominee. Ryan is a prime example of a Republican who has betrayed the party faithful by snuggling up to Democrats instead of standing by the “values and principles” he now piously raises as an issue.
I have no crystal ball and cannot read the future. But if I were betting, I’d be betting that this exchange solidifies Trump’s standing within the party while marginalizing Ryan, rather than the other way around.
Time will tell.

IMHO, Ken
you are 100% on the money.
I agree……guys like Ryan created Trump.
Now that Trump is the candidate, I wonder if we will be seeing more reasoned views from him such as this one???
