Ken Berwitz

donald trump was on the Today Show this morning.  Among his more ludicrous comments (I\’ll update with verbatims when I can get them), we have:

-He didn\’t say he couldn\’t disavow the racist anti-Semite david duke because he wasn\’t aware of duke himself, it was because he wasn\’t aware of “other groups” that were also being talked about.  His exact words:

“First of all, he talked about david duke and other groups….I know who he is, but I never met david duke…I disavowed david duke the day before in a major press conference and I\’m asking myself how many times do you have to disavow david duke, and the question was asked about david duke and various groups, and I don\’t know who the groups are….”

If you\’re trying to make sense out of that I wish you luck.  “Other groups”, whatever that means has nothing to do with disavowing david duke.  And if he disavowed duke the day before, why wouldn\’t he have done the same here?

-When part of the transcript was read making it clear that he was asked specifically about duke, not the “other groups”, trump then claimed he had a bad ear phone and didn\’t hear the question well.  Presto change-o.  His exact words:

“I\’m sitting in Florida in a house with a very bad earpiece that they gave me, and you could hardly hear what he was saying, what I heard was \’various groups\’ and I don\’t mind disavowing anybody, and I disavowed david duke and I disavowed him before in a major news conference, which is surprising because he was at the major news conference, CNN was at the major news conference, and they heard me very easily disavow david duke.  Now I go and I sit down again and I have a lousy earpiece that was provided by them…”

Yeah, ok donald.  It was the earpiece.  The dog ate your disavowal.  Whatever.

Point of order:  donald trump is the guy who tells us that Marco Rubio repeats himself.  In this interview, trump used the term disavow/disavowed 14 times (and I\’m not counting a number of others, because they were mentioned in a different context)…and “other/various groups” 7 times.  If you listen to the entire interview (which you can do by clicking here) you can count them up for yourself.

Hypocrisy anyone?  What was that old saying about glass houses and throwing stones?

-When asked about his string of childish, vicious personal insults against pretty much everyone he has run against and everyone who ever says a bad word about him, trump claimed that when someone goes after him, he hits back.  See, it\’s not like trump initiated any of this, he\’s just counterpunching.  Specifically, when asked about the Rubio feud he claimed

“I never started this, Matt…”.

A lie.

It staggers credulity that anyone can see this egomaniacal lying loudmouth as President of the United States.
