Republican Troy Balderson apparently has won the special election for Ohio’s 12th congressional district, by the tiniest of slivers.

The almost final results (there are about 3,300 write-in votes to count), show these totals:

Percent Candidate Party Votes Winner
50.2% Troy Balderson GOP 101,574
49.3% Danny O’Connor Dem 99,820
0.6% Joe Manchik GP 1,127
100% of precincts reporting (591/591)
202,521 total votes

With a 1,754 vote lead, there is virtually no likelihood of the write-ins changing this result.

What does it mean?  I don’t know (and neither does anyone else).

Did Donald Trump’s huge rally there last week put Balderson over the edge?  I don’t know (and neither does anyone else).

Will this have any effect on the regularly-scheduled election between these two in November?  I don’t know (and neither does anyone else).

Now, enjoy the political pundits look you in the eye and tell you what it means, as if they do know.
