How sick is Portland, Oregon?
The answer is found in this excerpt from Kyle Perisic’s article at dailycaller.com:
Portland, Oregon, police refused to respond to at least two 911 emergency calls from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) employees inside their offices where violent protesters held week-long demonstrations.
The National Immigration and Customs Enforcement Council, a union representing ICE employees, wrote a cease-and-desist letter to Mayor Ted Wheeler, asking him to ensure the police enforce the law equally and protect innocent people.
“Your current policy forbidding Portland law enforcement agencies from assisting employees of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency who request law enforcement assistance while at or away from work is a violation of the United States Constitution’s Equal Protection Clause,” the letter says.
Is that correct? Is it the Mayor of Portland’s current policy to ignore 911 – emergency – calls if they come from members of a federal agency he doesn’t like?
This tweet from wheeler certainly suggests that it is:
I drove by the demonstration yesterday, it seemed to be very peaceful and I was pleased to see that. I want to be very clear I do not want the @PortlandPolice to be engaged or sucked into a conflict, particularly from a federal agency that I believe is on the wrong track (2/4)
“Sucked into a conflict”? If there is a physical attack on ANYONE in Portland it is the police’s job to stop it from happening. I don’t give a damn if ted wheeler doesn’t like who the parties being attacked are.
If this is true, it goes beyond sick, and wheeler should be removed from office immediately.
I would not object if, pre-emptively – i.e. before even one ICE officer is injured or worse, and/or any ICE equipment is damaged because they Mayor has ordered that law enforcement is picking and choosing who to protect – federal troops are sent in to take over the city.
Better now, before the carnage, than afterwards.
This is sick beyond belief. And the people of Portland should be ashamed they elected someone like this to office.
