Today’s quote comes to us from Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. It refers to former congressperson Robert Frances “Beto” O’Rourke.
First I will show you the quote. Then I will tell you what question Ms. Pelosi was responding to at the time:
“Beto has brought a good deal of vitality to Congress. One of the issues in his, as, as, I haven’t been asked this question, but I just know of his record here, When he came, he came as a real champion for, uh, the environment, he got a great deal of support from the environmental community in his district. He won in a primary on that subject.
“Also he’s a member of the Armed Service Committee, a strong member of the Armed Service Committee, which is very important for his district. So preserving our planet and protecting our people, these two areas in addition to his vitality….”
There’s the quote. And here is the question Ms. Pelosi responded to, from a reporter during today’s press conference:
“Beto O’Rourke announced today he is running for President. What, in your view, is Beto O’Rourke’s signature accomplishment as a member of the house?”
Now, a question for you: is there an accomplishment in Nancy Pelosi’s response? I’m not just talking signature accomplishment, I’m talking any accomplishment?
She said that he’s got vitality, he supports the environment and he was a member of the Armed Services committee. That’s his sum total of six years in congress, Speaker Pelosi?
Uh…what about me? I’ve got vitality, I support the environment and, if asked, I would willingly have served on the Armed services Committee. Does that mean I’m an accomplished congressperson too? Am I owed six years back pay?
I award Nancy Pelosi Quote Of The Day honors, for doing the best she could when asked about an absolute nonentity whose main accomplishment is that he gets great media coverage. It couldn’t have been easy.
