Today’s quote comes to us from Rep. Todd Rokita (R-IN).
Rep. Rokita is introducing legislation that would make the first $2,500 of bonuses given to workers after passage of the Republican tax legislation tax-free.
He calls it the “Creating Relief and Useful Middle-Class Benefits and Savings” act. Take a good look at the first letters of those words, and see why Nancy Pelosi (among others) might take the name personally.
“Americans are receiving thousands of dollars in bonuses and more money in their paychecks thanks to President Trump’s tax reform, but out-of-touch Democratic leaders believe they only amount to crumbs,” Rokita said in a statement. “The CRUMBS Act will let Americans keep more of the money they receive as a result of President Trump’s tax reform, and allow them, not the government, to choose how best to spend their bonuses.”
On the serious side, there is no particular reason for these bonuses to be tax-free, and I don’t anticipate that Rep. Rokita’s bill will be passed.
But he does win Quote Of The Day honors for making me laugh – which, these days, is a lot harder than making Nancy Pelosi look ridiculous.
