Today’s quote comes to us from Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA). Rep. Speier is horrified that President Trump is unhappy with the performance of several federal entities – as one scandal after another becomes known to the public, it should be noted. She feels it is a prelude to….well, I’ll let her say it:
“I am concerned that the president of the United States is systematically trying to shut down every possible branch of government but the presidency. So you got him attacking the judiciary, you have him attacking the CIA, you have him attacking the Department of Justice, the FBI. I mean this is the conduct of someone who could become a tyrant if we don’t step in and speak out against him.”
Translation: Rep. Speier is telling us that President Trump’s criticism of certain judicial rulings, or certain elements of how the CIA, the DOJ and the FBI have performed, does not mean he wants them to function better, it means he wants them to shut down so that he can become Dictator.
And, of course, Ms. Speier can back her claim up with all those quotes from President Trump and his people saying, or implying, that the remedy for criticism-worthy performance is to shut the…..oh, wait. No, she can’t. Because there aren’t any.
I award Jackie Speier Quote Of The Day honors for providing another example of the kind of mung we sometimes get from safe-seat Democrats – those nice folks who will never pay the price for comments like this, but who are a key reason Democrats’ electoral fortunes have declined so much in recent years.
Republicans everywhere thank you, Ms. Speier.
