Today’s quote comes to us from “the people’s choice” in New York City – two times, both by landslides: Mayor Bill De Blasio.
As you may be aware, De Blasio has instituted a policy of letting criminals out in the streets with no bail (thus assuring they can continue to ply their “trades”). In addition, he has extended his reputation as a police-hating leftist by wisking away roughly 17% of next year’s law enforcement budget and eliminating the anti-crime units which have been so successful over the years in keeping crime rates down.
Add this to the fact that New York police (along with police in, I would think, every major city where there have been riots) are thinking twice, and twice again, before aggressively going after criminals and New York City is experiencing a huge increase in crime – especially violent crime.
So why does De Blasio think the spike in crime is occurring? Does he think it has anything to do with the fact I just enumerated?
Nope. Here’s his explanation of the violent crime explosion this past weekend – more than double the amount experienced by New York City during July 4th weekend last year:
“I want to talk about what happened this weekend. Many were out there celebrating, but we saw too much violence, and we have a lot of work to do to address it…
“…This is directly related to coronavirus. This is a very serious situation… As we’re getting into warmer and warmer weather, we’re feeling the effects of people being cooped up for months, the economy hasn’t restarted – we have a real problem here.”
There you go. It’s not any of his actions, it’s the coronavirus. And who’s responsible for the coronavirus? You already know the answer De Blasio is going to give, don’t you?
Hint: it ain’t China.
I award Mayor Bill De Blasio Quote Of The Day “honors” for doing something that is increasingly difficult: saying something that makes him look like even more of an incompetent, full-of-excrement schmuck than he looks like already.
My final comment is to the citizens of New York City.
You elected this incompetent, full-of-excrement schmuck. Twice. Both times by landslides. And you handed him a City Council consisting of 48 Democrats out of 51 to facilitate his every action.
You did this. You voted yourselves one-party rule, led by De Blasio. So if you feel a lot less safe now – as you damn well should – you’ve got no one to blame but yourselves.
