Today’s quote – and it is a truly remarkable one – comes to us from the so-called “moderate” 6-time senator, 2-time vice president and, now, presidential candidate, Joe Biden.
At the end of an interview with members of the New York Times editorial board, Mr. Biden turned the talk to pay inequality. Here is the key part of his opinion:
“All White guys are just basically, they don’t give a damn about women. They don’t care about equal pay. The people that don’t like equal pay are at the top of the heap. I don’t like the idea that you’re going to get paid as much as a man doing your job.”
First off, how do you feel about that astonishing stereotype of White men? “All White guys are just basically, they don’t give a damn about women. They don’t care about equal pay”?
Isn’t that right down there with “All Black guys are just basically, they don’t give a damn about working”or “All Irish guys are just basically, they don’t give a damn about staying sober”, or “All Jewish guys are, just, basically, they don’t give a damn about anything but making money”.
Could Donald Trump ever in a million years get away with an overtly negative stereotype like that? Mitch McConnell? Devin Nunes? Any other Republican? Not a chance.
But this is Joe Biden, so the one-size-fits-all insult to all White men is okey-dokey.
Now, a bit of potentially useful news for Mr. Biden: Hey Joe, YOU’RE a White guy. So does that mindlessly ignorant coment apply to you? And if it doesn’t, then why are you saying it applies to all White guys?
And here’s another little factoid for Mr. Biden to consider. I’m a White guy who, in my area of business – marketing research – spent decades working with and for women. During this time I have always supported equal pay regardless of gender. Does that mean I have to turn in my genitals, on the grounds that I don’t deserve them since my life experience has disfigured your stupid, mindless stereotype?
Joe Biden wins Quote Of The Day “honors” for exposing this truly disgusting, disheartening side of himself…and for proving (again, as if we needed more proof) that, in our current media climate, a Democrat can get away with saying things that would – and should – never be tolerated from a Republican/conservative.
