It just hit me: what if Nancy Pelosi’s hold-up, then sudden OK weeks later, of the articles of impeachment, is a strategy to maximize Joe Biden’s chances for the Democrat presidential nomination.
How would this work? Very easily explained.
If, as expected, Pelosi presents the articles to the Senate this week, it will start what may be a protracted trial – weeks, even a month or more.
While that trial is running, two of Joe Biden’s major competitors, Senator Elizabeth Warren and Senator Bernie Sanders (along with three others – Amy Klobuchar, Cory Booker and Michael Bennet) will be nailed to their seats in the senate chamber.
If properly worked, they’ll be sitting there through Iowa – maybe even New Hampshire, Nevada and North Carolina – while Joe Biden, who is not a U.S. Senator, will be free to campaign in those states to his heart’s content.
Is that what this gamesmanship is all about?
I, of course, don’t know for sure. But the fact that it works out so advantageously for Mr. Biden has got me wondering.
