THE PARAGRAPHS OF THE DAY: BILL CLINTON COVER-UP EDITION

Today’s paragraphs come to us from Michael Gold’s article for the New York Times, titled “Bill Clinton and Jeffrey Epstein:  How Are They Connected?”

The paragraphs are Mr. Gold’s entire take on the flights Bill Clinton took on jeffrey epstein’s plane – which some, sarcastically (and sardonically) called “The Lolita Express”, because it had a bed on board and usually included young, often underage girls.

After first telling us that Bill Clinton used to have a relationship with epstein but no hadn’t for years – just like President Trump – he wrote this:

In his statement on Monday, Mr. Clinton’s spokesman, Angel Ureña, said that Mr. Clinton took “four trips” on Mr. Epstein’s plane between 2002 and 2003 — one each to Europe and Asia, and two to Africa.

The trips all “included stops in connection with the work of the Clinton Foundation,” Mr. Ureña said, adding that Mr. Clinton’s staff, supporters of the foundation and Mr. Clinton’s Secret Service detail traveled with him on every leg of every trip.

Flight records published by Gawker in 2015 suggested that Mr. Clinton took at least a dozen separate flights on Mr. Epstein’s plane. A year later, Fox News reported that flight records showed President Clinton had flown at least 26 times on Mr. Epstein’s plane.

It was unclear how many individual flights were involved in each trip that Mr. Ureña mentioned and whether that may account for the discrepancy between the number he cited and what the flight logs show. Mr. Clinton’s office did not immediately respond for a request for comment.

The flight logs, posted online by Gawker, also record Mr. Clinton as being present on a domestic flight from Miami to Westchester County Airport in West Harrison, N.Y., which is near Mr. Clinton’s home in suburban Chappaqua.

If you’re into lying by omission – i.e. telling the truth, but leaving out details that cause the reader to draw incorrect conclusions – that, folks, is a case study.

Here is the the exact paragraph from the Fox News article:

Court documents obtained by Fox News in 2016 showed that Clinton took at least 26 trips flying aboard Epstein’s private jet, known as the “Lolita Express,” and apparently ditched his Secret Service detail on some of the excursions. Records showed that Trump apparently flew on the jet at least once.

What Michael Gold (and the New York Times editors who approved this story) left out, is that the 4 flights vs. 26 flights was not just some dispute between Clinton’s people and Fox News, the 26 flight total came right out of court documents – documents that, presumably, were as available to the New York Times as they were to Fox.  And – as can be seen by looking at the link to Gawker’s actual flight logs – Clinton did not carry secret service people on all of them; there were flights without secret service on board.

Now, why do you suppose those little factoids were left out?  Because The Times didn’t want to you to know how much “humanitarian aid” Clinton was providing?

I award Michael Gold Paragraphs Of The Day “honors” for again showing us that it doesn’t matter what the Clintons do, media will cover for them….

…which meshes nicely with their opposite “coverage” for Donald Trump.
