Have you ever heard of a country’s presidential candidate – the one leading in the polls, no less – telling his/her citizens that they should leave and go somewhere else, because it’s a better place than their homeland?
Well, there’s always a first time….
From Paul Bois’ article for dailywire.com:
According to a report from Eluniversal, candidate Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) said the people should flee Mexico to find a life in the United States, which is a pretty dismal message coming from a presidential candidate. The equivalent would be President Trump telling Americans to flee for Canada.
“And soon, very soon — after the victory of our movement — we will defend all the migrants in the American continent and all the migrants in the world,” Obrador said on Tuesday while calling on people to “leave their towns and find a life in the United States.”
Hard to believe, but true. Here, we have Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the man Mexicans will most likely elect as their President, telling his own people to hit the road, Jack, and dontcha come back no more.
This is about as humiliating a suggestion for Mexican citizens as Mr. Obrador could make. He, inherently, is telling them they are better off leaving their own country – even if it is to live illegally, in the shadows, under ongoing threat of deportation – then to stay in their own country as legal citizens with full rights .
Does Obrador think that little of Mexico. Does he think that little of what Mexico will become if he is its leader?
On the other hand, isn’t this what Mexico has been promoting anyway? For decades, Mexico has had no problem whatsoever in sending its people, and people from Central America, right through to our border. So it can be argued that Obrador is not suggesting a new direction, he is just stating the current direction out loud.
And the fact that his call for Mexicans to jump our border specifically promotes the breaking of USA immigration laws? No problem at all. Who cares about that? (NOTE: in case you’re wondering, Mexico itself has extremely rigid immigration laws, and you can bet they are enforced).
Apparently, the more citizens Mexico’s “leaders” can get rid of, regardless of how it is accomplished, the happier they are.
How do you deal with a country whose leadership enthusiastically endorses its people fleeing over the border?
What does it tell you about the respect Mexico’s leadership has for its own people? About its respect for the laws of the country it urges its people to flee to?
What a humiliating, degrading admission Mexico is making about itself.
