As you probably know – certainly if you watch any of Law & Order’s various incarnations – a witness who is shown to be a liar has little or no value to the side he is testifying for.

With that in mind, read this excerpt from yesterday’s article in the Washington Post (which must be spitting nails over having to publish it):

Rick Gates — the star witness against President Trump’s former campaign chairman — admitted in federal court Monday that he committed a host of crimes with his former boss, and confessed to stealing from him and others.

In his first hour on the witness stand, Gates catalogued years of illegal activity, saying most of his wrongdoing was committed on behalf of his former boss, Paul Manafort, while other crimes were for his own benefit, including the theft of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Gates also made clear that he was testifying against Manafort with the hope of receiving a lesser prison sentence, having pleaded guiltyin February as part of a deal with special counsel Robert S. Mueller III.

Presented with a copy of the plea agreement he had signed, Gates said he conspired with Manafort to falsify Manafort’s tax returns.

Andres asked Gates whether he understood that his lies and omissions were illegal.

“Yes,” Gates said.

In other words, “I’m a serial liar and a serial thief, but if I say this I will get a better deal at sentencing, so I’m saying it and you should believe me”.

Yeah, right, Rick-o.  You’re just loaded with credibility.  We’ll believe everything you say…as soon as our IQ drops below 47.

And now that we understand the “star witness” against Paul Manafort is not in any way worthy of being believed, can we move on to the question of what any of this has to do with the 2016 election?

I ask the above question because none of it does.

That’s right   Nothing Paul Manafort has been jailed, put in solitary and now tried for has a thing to do with that election.   Thus it has nothing to do with what mueller is supposed to be investigating.

And if it has nothing to do with the 2016 election, why is robert mueller running this idiotic dog and pony show of a trial?

Is the answer that, after a year and a half of scouring everything and finding nothing related to Russian collusion with Trump (while ignoring massive evidence that Hillary Clinton and her campaign did exactly that, let’s remember), mueller has got to show SOMETHING to the suckers who keep thinking he’s going to take Trump down.

I don’t know who comes across looking worse.  The ridiculous, thoroughly compromised mueller, his all-Democrat Star Chamber of a staff, or the people who hate Trump so much that they feel compelled to keep ignoring the obvious fact that his “investigation” has produced a big fat goose-egg zero, that Paul Manafort’s innocence or guilt on charges unrelated to the 2016 campaign will not change even one little bit.
