President Trump is unofficially kicking off his 2020 re-election campaign tonight in Orlando, Florida.

To celebrate this event, NBC news gave Mr. Trump its very special welcome, by playing a doctored tape of what he said about Mexican illegals during the 2016 campaign.

During a story on the just-announced new ICE policy, The Today Show played a tape of Trump telling us:

“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best.

They’re bringing drugs.  They’re bringing crime.  They’re rapists.”

This “quote” plays right into the people who have spent three years telling us that is what Trump thinks of all Mexicans crossing the border into the United States.

…here is the unedited, i.e. undoctored, quote – i.e. what he actually said:

“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best.

“They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you.

“They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us.

“They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists.

“And some, I assume, are good people.”

Notice a bit more of a distinction between good and bad Mexican immigrants?  Maybe that “…some, I assume, are good people” line at the end helps your understanding a tad.

But viewers of this morning’s Today Show didn’t hear that line.  For them, the quote ended at “They’re bringing drugs.  They’re bringing Crime.  They’re rapists.”  Nothing more.

This, folks, is what passes for news coverage at NBC these days.

How proud they must be.

And don’t doubt for a moment that this is a continuing effort.  It’s not like NBC hasn’t doctored tapes before.  And it is far from the only media venue which does so.

In other words, get ready for a year and a half more of it…and, if Trump wins, five and a half more…

… all the while, bristling with indignation that anyone might challenge their journalistic integrity.
