What is the difference between hate and comedy?

Well, in Hollywood the difference is that hate defines as anything aimed at anyone to the left of center, and comedy defines as anything aimed at anyone to the right of center.

Want a case in point?  Here is a truly ugly one, via excerpts from Justin Kroll’s article in Variety:

Having already famously portrayed former President George W. Bush in various comedy sketches,Will Ferrell is now setting his sights on another former commander-in-chief.

Sources tell Variety Ferrell is attached to star as President Reagan in the Black List script “Reagan.”

Penned by Mike Rosolio, the story begins at the start of the then-president’s second term when he falls into dementia and an ambitious intern is tasked with convincing the commander-in-chief that he is an actor playing the president in a movie.

The script was so popular following its announcement on the Black List, an annual catalog of the top unproduced scripts in Hollywood, that a live read was done recently done in March starring Lena Dunham and John Cho.

Ferrell will produce along with production banner Gary Sanchez Productions. The package currently is without a director, but will soon be shopped to studios.

Wow, isn’t this great? A comedy about conservative icon (and one of the most popular Presidents in US history), Ronald Reagan, in which he has Alzheimer’s – not in gradual degrees after his presidency but to a significant degree throughout his second term – and an intern who gets him through it by convincing the debilitated Reagan he is making a movie.

A laff riot, I’m sure.

Any surprise that, in the sewer that is today’s Hollywood, the popularity of this script – and, presumably, interest in being in the movie – is so great?
Last November, Donald Trump ridiculed New York Times reporter Serge F. Kovaleski, who has arthrogryposis; a condition which severely affects his joints.
Trump’s behavior was disgusting – so much so that he felt the need to lie about the fact that he did it in an effort to save face. Media, very much including the entertainment industry, lambasted him for it – as well they should have.
Now, just five months later, we find out that the same entertainment industry, is thrilled with the prospect of Will Ferrell – whom, assuming this report is true, I have lost 100% of my respect for – both starring in and producing a “comedy” about Ronald Reagan’s alzheimer’s disease.
The sickness that pervades this industry, as exemplified by the actors who want to perform in such a movie, is self-evident. And moviegoers who will run to see it and laugh at alzheimers…as long as they don’t like the politics of the guy who had it…are just as sick.
UPDATE:  According to Variety, because of the enormous outcry over the idea of a comedy about Ronald Reagan’s Alzheimers disease, will ferrell has bowed out of starring in, and producing this cinematic cesspool.

The fact that he would have considered it until the outcry, makes him a pig to me…along with the people who read for parts in it, including lena dunham and josh brolin.

They can all go straight to hell.
