How many Walgreens drug stores have to close in San Francisco before there aren’t any left?
I don’t know, but the city is well on its way to finding out.
From Tessa McLean’s article for sfgate.com:
Another Walgreens is permanently shutting down in San Francisco.
The drugstore at 790 Van Ness Ave. had been dealing with rampant shoplifting, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, amounting to up to $1,000 in lost merchandise every day. Thefts were often brazen and carried out in broad daylight.
“I feel sorry for the clerks, they are regularly being verbally assaulted,” longtime customer Sebastian Luke told the Chronicle. “The clerks say there is nothing they can do. They say Walgreens’ policy is to not get involved. They don’t want anyone getting injured or getting sued, so the guys just keep coming in and taking whatever they want.”
Many products are already locked behind plastic theft guards, as anyone who’s shopped inside a city store has noticed.
Got that? $1,000 in theft every day and not a thing done about it. Why because the Walgreen’s people are worried that the shoplifters will assault store clerks, and maybe sue. The shoplifters might sue.
Incidentally, this Walgreen’s is in California’s 12th congressional district. That’s the one supposedly represented by Nancy Pelosi.
I know it is asking a lot of our media, but maybe one or another of the more courageous people within that industry – someone fearless enough to risk the consequences of providing honest journalism – would like to do a story on what has become of California’s 12th over the time Ms. Pelosi has been its representative.
I’d especially be interested in the years since Donald Trump became President, during which time Ms. Pelosi has done little but go after him every way she can, while ignoring the rapid degeneration which has taken place there.
As for the voters who live (not to mention /squat/panhandle/shoplift) in C-12? Hey, you re-elect Pelosi in a landslide every time. You know who and what she is and you keep her in charge.
You deserve everything you get.
