Pelositis: a condition that causes politicians to say and do things, no matter how stupid they are, which play to their hardline base and alienate everyone else.
OK, OK. I admit it. There is no such thing as Pelositis. I made it up.
But if there were, it would be more than evident in this astonishing, just-passed decision by the Democrat National Committee.
From Alexander C. Kaufman’s article in the Huffington Post:
The Democratic National Committee voted over the weekend to ban donations from fossil fuel companies, HuffPost has learned.
The resolution ― proposed by Christine Pelosi, a party activist and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s daughter ― bars the organization from accepting contributions from corporate political action committees tied to the oil, gas and coal industries. The executive committee voted unanimously to approve the motion.
“We talk about how climate change is real and climate change is a planetary emergency, what we need to do is stop taking money from the institutions that have created this crisis,” said RL Miller, president of the super PAC Climate Hawks Vote Political Action and a co-author of the resolution.
This is not satire, folks. It is real. As the result of Christine “Little Nancy” Pelosi’s exhortations, and the DNC’s willingness to buy into them, The Democrat Party has now come out against the oil, gas and coal industries.
Is its hardline base happy? Probably just about as happy as a pig in slop.
But what about the people who utilize oil gas and coal? Which is to say virtually everyone in the country? How do you think they feel about this rejection of almost the entire energy industry?
And how do you think Republicans will utilize the DNC’s decision? Will they demand that Democrats no longer use oil, gas and coal? I know that’s what I would be demanding.
Are gas stations around the country, going to be putting up signs saying “Warning: Democrats Beware”? Asking people who pull up to the pumps what their party affiliation is?
Could this possibly be more absurd?
Pelositis. It’s a condition that can be fatal…to Democrats in competitive districts who catch it, and support the DNC’s new position.
The 2018 midterm elections are getting more fun by the minute.
