AUSCHWITZ? WHO CARES?

Did you know that President Obama, who is cutting a visit to India short so he can attend the funeral of the Saudi King, will not be present at the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz on Tuesday? Among the heads of state he will not be joining, are (according to the New York Times) President Fran├žois Hollandeof France, President Joachim Gauck of Germany and President...

AMERICAN SUPERHIT

Earlier this month I referenced an article at breitbart.com, which listed out 11 anti-war movies – most of them anti-USA (the two can be mutually exclusive but, for the most part, not in Hollywood) – about Iraq and Afghanistan.  Every one was a box office flop.  Total losses?  In the hundreds of millions. By contrast… …American Sniper was put...

A QUICK QUESTION FOR MOST MAINSTREAM MEDIA

A quick question for (most – not all, but most) mainstream media: Remember when you skewered then-President Bush for his kowtowing to the Saudis?  Remember how you told us what a slave to oil interests it made him?  What it said about his deference to the monarch of a repressive, intolerant country? Well, President Obama just cut short a major trip to an ally –...

TARNISHED SILVER, CORRODED CUOMO?

Other than (or, possibly, including ) the Governor, Sheldon Silver is the most powerful person in the state of New York.  He has been Speaker of the House Assembly for almost 21 years, and has ruled with an iron fist. But now he has been arrested, and is accused of taking almost $4 million dollars in bribes.   Whether or not Silver beats the charges (and it is a very good bet...

ERNIE BANKS R.I.P.

Ernie Banks, the Chicago Cubs\’ great Hall of Fame shortstop and, by all accounts, one of the nicest, most upbeat gentlemen of baseball, has died in Chicago at the age of 83.  The cause of death has not yet been announced. As a teenager, Mr. Banks was a star in the Negro leagues.  He became a Chicago Cub in 1953, and remained a Cub throughout an illustrious 19 year career...

SOME STRAIGHT LINES ARE JUST TOO GOOD TO GIVE UP

I just had my hair cut, styled, whatever. It being a Friday afternoon, the place I go to was mobbed with women (I was the only male customer). So I\’m looking to hang my coat, but the rack is very full.  One of the female customers sees me struggling to find a place for it.  And, with total innocence, she asks “Do you have a hanger?”. I...

SELLING SILVER

I just put on the TV for a moment or two, and was treated to a commercial which advertised that silver prices are currently below production cost, it is on sale, and the time to buy is Now! Now! Now! And I wondered what the same company says to the people it was selling silver to a short time ago, when the price was much higher and they were also importuning them to buy it Now! Now! Now! Are...

THE QUOTE OF THE DAY

Today\’s quote – actually quotes, since there are a pair of them – comes to us from a man Wisconsin is very lucky to call its own:  Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke. Here is what Chief Clarke has to say – first, about the DOJ seconding Saint Louis\’s grand jury in bringing no charges against (now former) police officer Darren Wilson for his...

THE OBAMA FOREIGN POLICY DISASTER

Nobody – well, nobody sane – will accuse the Washington Post of being a right wing publication, or favoring Republicans, or being an enemy of Barack Obama. With that in mind, please read the following – the first, and last, paragraph of yesterday\’s editorial on the Yemen disaster and, more broadly, Barack Obama\’s overall foreign policy: INDEVOTING 250 of the 6,800...

THE MARCH THAT WASN\’T THERE

One year I looked upon D.C. And saw a march that didn\’t be. It didn\’t be on this year too If media were all we knew I concede my poetry is not original, and it is a little mangled/non-grammatical.  But I hope it gets the point across. Yes, there was a March For Life yesterday in Washington D.C., on the anniversary of Roe V Wade. Yes, Tens of thousands, maybe...

THE BELICHICK/BRADY BS-FEST

Did you catch the belichick/brady BS-fest? If not, here is a (paraphrased) summary for you: “Heck, we don\’t know a thing about those footballs that were deflated so it would be easier for a quarterback to pass them, a receiver to hold onto the passes, and our running backs not to fumble.  Who could have done such a thing?” If you believe this, you are beyond...

PRESIDENT OBAMA\’S PRIORITIES

The Middle East is exploding. Next month, Benjamin Netanyahu – Prime Minister of Israel, which is an epicenter of the Middle East – will visit the United States.  During that visit, he has been asked, by Speaker of the House John Boehner, to address a joint session of congress. But Mr. Netanyahu has not been invited to the White House.  And President Obama – in...

IS THIS THE REAL REASON OBAMA WILL NOT MEET WITH NETANYAHU?

As you may be aware, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been invited by Speaker of the House John Boehner to address a joint session of congress in March. As you may also be aware, President Obama has declined to meet with Mr. Netanyahu.  The ostensible reasons are that Speaker Boehner breached protocol when he bypassed the President and did the inviting on his own…and that...

THE QUOTE OF THE DAY

Today\’s quote comes to us from Fareed Zakaria, who hosts “Fareed Zakaria GPS” on CNN.  Here is what he had to say about the lineup of Fox News Channel hosts: – against which CNN competes, and loses big-time, all day and all night on weekends and evenings: “Wedon\’t hold Rupert Murdoch responsible for every crazy, radical, youknow, quasi-fascist...
