Rep. luis guitierrez (D-IL), a hard leftist who never served a day in the military and whose entire purpose in life is to advocate for illegal aliens, said this about President Trump’s Chief of Staff, John Kelly, regarding Kelly’s support for the phasing-out of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals  (DACA):

“General Kelly is a hypocrite who is a disgrace to the uniform he used to wear. He has no honor and should be drummed out of the White House along with the white supremacists and those enabling the President’s actions by ‘just following orders’”

General Kelly’s response:

“As far as the congressman and other irresponsible members of congress are concerned, they have the luxury of saying what they want as they do nothing and have almost no responsibility. They can call people liars but it would be inappropriate for me to say the same thing back at them. As my blessed mother used to say ’empty barrels make the most noise.’”

“Every DOJ and DHS lawyer says DACA is unconstitutional. Every other legal scholar – right and left – says the same thing. Trump didn’t end DACA, the law did. That said, I worked and succeeded to give the congress another six months to do something. I am not confident.”

Great response, albeit an exaggerated one (how can Kelly know every DOJ and DHS lawyer feels this way) – right down to his entirely justified skepticism about congress getting anything done (which is no exaggeration at all).

And too bad for Democrats that it won’t shut guitierrez up.

luis guitierrez is one of the safe-seat Democrats who can say things like this with no fear whatsoever of losing his next election.  But guitierrez’s comments are sure to be used by Republicans to defeat Democrats in competitive races – as witnessed by Democrats’ astonishing losses in both houses of congress, governorships and statehouses over the past four elections.

Call me a dreamer, but if, in 8 years,  you go from a 60% majority in the senate to a 48% minority, from a 60% majority in the house to a 45% minority and from 58% majority of state governors to a 32% minority (that’s no typo:  from a 29-21 majority to 16 – 33, with one independent)….

….you probably should be considering a change in what you’ve been doing during that period.

And one thing – maybe the first thing – you should do is find a way to shut up the luis guitierrez’s of your party.
