In the old South, stories abounded of Black men being accused of some kind of unacceptable behavior (which meant virtually anything a White person did not like), and groups of men looking for one or more Black men to punish for that behavior (no need to worry about the legal system, and no need to care about whether the Black man/men had anything to do with the behavior).
Read this excerpt from John Sexton\’s article at breitbart.com, and see if you find any similarities:
A University ofIllinois at Chicago student has been arrested and will face charges for anonline threat to kill at least 16 “white devils” in revenge for the death ofLaquan McDonald who was shot 16 times by police.
“This is my only warning. At 10AMMonday morning, I\’m going to the campus quad of the University of Chicago. Iwill be armed with an M-4 carbine and two desert eagles, all fully loaded. Iwill execute approximately 16 white male students and or staff, which is thesame number of time McDonald was killed,” the Chicago Tribune reports. The message continued, “I will then die killing anynumber of white policeman in the process. This is not a joke. I am to do mypart and rid the world of white devils. I expect you do the same.”
Seventeen year-old Laquan McDonald was shot and killed by police inOctober 2014. Video of the shooting was released last week. The police officerwho shot McDonald has been charged with firstdegree murder.
As you can see, the alleged writer of this threat was arrested before any such thing happened. So, I am happy and relieved to say, we will never know if he truly meant to make good on his threat.
But what if he had? What if he had opened fire on people for the “crime” of being White – no need to worry about the legal system, and no need to care about whether the White victims had anything to do with the behavior?
Would it not be a continuation of the mindless racism I wrote about at the beginning of this blog?
When does it ever end?
UPDATE: The racist who threatened to kill “White Devils” for the crime of their skin color – which they had no more say over than he did – has been named. He is jabari r. dean, a 21 year-old electrical engineering major at the University of Illinois – Chicago.
I wonder if he\’s proud of himself for posting that threat. I\’m sure we\’ll find out soon enough.
