I haven’t written about Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) in the past couple of months. Frankly, her one-note whine about impeachment is too silly, too factless and too boring to bother with.
But, just to keep you up to date, I thought I’d provide her latest silliness, factlessness and bore-inducing TV appearance.
From Cameron Cawthorne’s article at freebeacon.com:
Rep. Maxine Waters (D., Calif.) on Tuesday praised Democrats for being “very responsible” in waiting for special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into President Donald Trump to be over before calling for his impeachment, despite calling for his impeachment at the end of her response
MSNBC host Ari Melber said there are critics of Democrats, including herself, who worry calling for Trump’s impeachment before the end of the investigation into whether Trump’s campaign was colluding with Russia during the 2016 presidential campaign could bias the high legal standing for impeachment process.
Melber went on to play a video from 1998 of Waters castigating Republicans for the way they were trying to impeach former President Bill Clinton, one of only two presidents to be impeached in American history.
“I am greatly disappointed in the raw, unmasked, unbridled hatred and meanness that drives this impeachment coup d’etat, the unapologetic disregard for the voice of the people,” Waters said at the time. “My Republican friends, what you do here today will long be remembered and recorded in history as one of the most despicable actions ever taken by the Congress of the United States of America.”
Melber said Waters’ argument about the impeachment process being “despicable” was because it was partisan and wasn’t a proper exercise of the Constitution’s impeachment power.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz….oh, you’re through reading? Sorry.
I love that part about Democrats being “very responsible” by not pushing for impeachment until Mueller is through. Weren’t you demanding impeachment every day, Ms. Waters? Aren’t you still doing so now? Do you have the intellectual capacity to realize you are telling us, in so many words, that you consider yourself irresponsible – which, it should be noted, is the most credible comment you made?
Here’s the news, Ms. Waters: Democrats aren’t waiting for Mueller. They are ignoring you.
In that regard, you might consider the possibility that Democrats are not calling for impeachment because:
a) it is not going to happen with a Republican house majority,
b) even if Democrats win a house majority in December, there is no guarantee it will happen,
c) even if Democrats do vote to impeach, a conviction – which requires 67 senators voting in favor from a senate that currently has only 49 Democrats and may well have even fewer after the midterm elections (just 8 Republican seats are up for grabs in 2018 vs. 26 Democrat seats) has no chance whatsoever,
d) And, if they try to impeach, Democrats not only will fail, but might very well create a backlash that vaporizes their chances in the 2020 election.
Other than that, you make an excellent point….well, about responsible behavior anyway.
OK, enough of Maxine Waters. With a little bit of luck, there won’t be much to say about her for the next few months, just as there weren’t for the last few.
