“Like five people”
What you just read is Nancy Pelosi’s version of whistling past the graveyard (not hers, but the Democrat Party as she thinks she knows it).
Excerpted from Zack Budryk’s article at thehill.com:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) told CBS’s “60 Minutes” that the left flank of the House Democratic caucus represented by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is “like five people” in a Sunday interview.
Asked by Lesley Stahl about potential insurrections or pushback from the progressive wing of the party, Pelosi responded, “That’s like five people.” She also disputed that there was a distinction between herself and progressive Democrats, saying she herself identified as a progressive.
“By and large, whatever orientation [House Democrats] came to Congress with, they know that we have to hold the center. That we have to go down the mainstream,” she told Stahl.
“Like five people”, eh?
In just the past few months the Democrat Party has sanitized/made meaningless legislation that would condemn anti-Semitism, and refused to support a bill that would protect children who, after an unsuccessful abortion attempt, were born alive.
Pretty amazing that this could be done with just, like, five people.
Just as amazing that it could be done in with the thought of holding the center/going down the mainstream.
And let’s not forget that, in 2016, a self-professed socialist, Bernie Sanders, won 23 primaries against your presumably centrist/mainstream pal Hillary Clinton – and lost the nomination only because the nominating process was specifically rigged against him.
No, Nancy, it’s not “like five people”, it’s where your party has moved. It’s where your party is. It’s what your party is.
That is a fact, no matter how much you whistle. Try something else.
