The (long overdue) investigation of how the so-called “deep state” may have worked to sabotage the Trump presidency even before it began, and managed to generate a two years-plus investigation of President Trump (which turned up nothing actionable either regarding collusion or obstruction of justice) has taken a far more ominous turn for the people who orchestrated it.
From Josh Gerstein’s article at politico.com, we have this:
An inquiry that Attorney General William Barr ordered into the origins of the probe into possible ties between the 2016 Trump campaign and Russia has now become a criminal investigation, a source familiar with the matter told POLITICO on Thursday.
The investigation, being conducted by the U.S. attorney for Connecticut, John Durham, was launched as an effort by Barr to answer unspecified questions he had about why the FBI began the counterintelligence investigation that eventually led to the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller.
However, escalating Barr’s inquiry from a management review to a criminal matter means current and former FBI, Justice Department or CIA officials could face the possibility of criminal charges arising from some aspect of their work on the Russia investigation.
The designation of Durham’s inquiry as a criminal investigation also vastly increases his power to gather information, opening up the possibility of grand jury subpoenas for records and testimony.
And if that weren’t worrisome enough for Clapper, Brennan, Comey, McCabe, Strok, Page, etc – not to mention Hillary Clinton, who paid for the “Steele dossier” opposition research which was used to generate so much of this effort…
…the review of a report by Inspector General Michael Horowitz – which potentially will pull the scab off this scandal even before John Durham moves into high gear – is, according to Horowitz, “nearing completion”. That means it will be released in the very near future – maybe even in the next week.
At the beginning of my blog I called this investigation “long overdue”. I am repeating it again now.
There are few things more disturbing to me than the possibility that a group of politically partisan backstabbers seriously attempted to undo a presidential election.
So let’s see the reports. Let’s get them out in the open and see what they contain and where they lead.
If a deep state attempt to sabotage of Donald Trump’s presidency this did not happen, I want to know about it.
If it did, I want to know about it.
Bottom line: I want the truth about what went on during and after the 2016 election.
