How does the Democrat Party hate Joe Biden?

Let me count the ways:

He’s old.  He’s White.  He’s male.

And, by today’s increasingly draconian sexual harassment standards, he is a serial offender.

Here is the latest example of Mr. Biden’s behavior – as excerpted from Lucy Flores’ personal account in New York magazine:

In 2014, I was the 35-year-old Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor in Nevada.

So when my campaign heard from Vice-President Joe Biden’s office that he was looking to help me and other Democrats in the state, I was grateful and flattered. His team offered to bring him to a campaign rally in an effort to help boost voter turnout. We set the date for November 1, just three days before election day.

Just before the speeches, we were ushered to the side of the stage where we were lined up by order of introduction. As I was taking deep breaths and preparing myself to make my case to the crowd, I felt two hands on my shoulders. I froze. “Why is the vice-president of the United States touching me?”

I felt him get closer to me from behind. He leaned further in and inhaled my hair. I was mortified.

He proceeded to plant a big slow kiss on the back of my head. My brain couldn’t process what was happening. I was embarrassed. I was shocked. I was confused. There is a Spanish saying, “tragame tierra,” it means, “earth, swallow me whole.” I couldn’t move and I couldn’t say anything. I wanted nothing more than to get Biden away from me. My name was called and I was never happier to get on stage in front of an audience.

Was Joe Biden trying to molest Ms. Flores – and doing so in public to boot?

If you’re asking me, the answer is no.

Reality check:  some people are very touchy/feely – and, though it can be taken as sexual impropriety it is not meant that way.  Just as some people talk too much, others over-express themselves physically.

But, for a public figure, being that way is politically disastrous – especially these days, when the slightest misstep can be blown into a major scandal.  And Joe Biden has been that way for a long time.  There are actually video compilations of him in action (here’s just one of them).

Over the years, media have largely insulated Mr. Biden from paying the price for this behavior.  But now we have a young, Latino Democrat going public with her tale of embarrassment and humiliation, so his cover is blown….

…as, I suspect, are his prospects for the 2020 presidential nomination.

I’m guessing that, in the not-so-distant future, Mr. Biden will announce he is not a candidate.
