It’s hard to tell whether this is more comical or more pathetic.
The so-called “New Green Deal” -a loony mishmosh of pipe dreams and fantasies that reads like it is a creative writing project from Mars – is being co-sponsored by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Senator Ed Markey (D-MA). But it has received the endorsement of over70 house Democrats and a dozen or so Senators, including several Presidential hopefuls.
So Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has decided to put it to a floor vote on the senate.
And what is the reaction of Senator Markey – again, one of its co-sponsors?
Don’t let Mitch McConnell fool you: this is nothing but an attempt to sabotage the movement we are building. He wants to silence your voice so Republicans don’t have to explain why they are climate change deniers. McConnell wants this to be the end, this is just the beginning.
Could that be more jaw-dropping? This is the guy who, presumably, wants this legislation passed, railing over the possibility that there might be a vote on it.
Why would he do that?
The reason is simple: if the “Green New Deal” goes to a floor vote, Senators who support it will then have to explain to the voters in their states why they favor what is in it…
…which includes, among other things, the end of air traffic, the retrofitting of every building in the country – including their homes, the end of air travel and the either the elimination of cows and other methane-farting animals or retrofitting them as well….among other insanities. It also guarantees free just-about-everything to just-about-everyone…except “the rich”, who will be expected to pay for everyone else’s free stuff.
In other words, Markey wants this so-called Green New Deal to be, and to remain, a little dream-world fantasy that he and his leftist cohorts can philosophize about to get votes from people ignorant of what is actually in it. What he desperately does not want (and you can bet he’s not alone) is to be on record as voting for it, which would require he explain his support of the items enumerated above (and that is a partial list – there are other components every bit as nutty too).
The lesson Markey, a long-time political veteran, should have known from the start: do not support an unsupportable piece of legislation if the person who can actually bring it to a vote is from the opposition party.
One other thing: if you google “Green New Deal” and look at the first five pages, you’ll find the vast majority of the listing are supportive. Only a few negatives in the bunch.
Anyone who thinks google is not skewed to the left is living in an alternate universe.
