HAS THE NEW YORK TIMES ELIMINATED MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL COVERAGE?

Is there going to be a major league baseball season this year?

You’d never know it, based on the New York Times’ Sunday sports section.

Less than two weeks from the start of the season and not one word about it.

No article on the New York Yankees. No article on the New York Mets. No article on anything related to major league baseball – not even one of those little squibs they put in the “and in other news” compilation – though there is a tiny little piece about Puerto Rico beating Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic semi-finals, whatever that is.

I have less and less regard for the Times as a news source. But have they eliminated major league baseball too?

Maybe on opening day the lead sports story will be results of the International Tiddlywinks Tournament.
