Starting today, California Governor Gavin Newsom has imposed a 10:00PM curfew on the state – presumably to address the COVID-19 pandemic.
Why there is any magic to 10:00PM is anyone’s guess. Maybe Governor Newsom thinks that more drinking takes place after 10, which loosens people up and makes them less likely to be careful (if that’s the case, why not impose a ban on drinking?)
But, aside from the absurdity of the curfew, there is another problem. Sheriffs and police departments are telling Governor Newsom they will not enforce it.
From the twitter account of Fox News – Los Angeles reporter Bill Melugin, we have this:
We’ve heard from the Sheriffs, we are now starting to hear from from city police departments about the curfew. Ontario and Laguna Beach PDs say they will NOT actively enforce the order, seeking voluntary compliance. Costa Mesa and Irvine PDs WILL take part in enforcement.
Maybe it’s just me, but that sure looks like the curfew is a cur-refusal instead.
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that a curfew like this is virtually unenforcable. Or the belief by law enforcement that Newsom has no right to impose such a curfew in the first place.
Whatever the reason, this has quickly morphed from a show of gubernatorial power, to making Gavin Newsom look like a powerless goober.
Maybe this latest assault on people’s basic freedoms wasn’t such a great idea after all.
And worse still for Newsom and his likeminded pals, maybe it will cause some to-date complacent Californians to rethink their willingness to accept whatever the Democrat-dominated, leftward government tells them they can and cannot do…which could lead to (gasp!!!) the resurrection of a two-party system in that state.
We can only hope.
