I don’t know if Donald Trump is a genius, a dummy, the luckiest man on earth or just someone who, having grown up in Jamaica, Queens, then spent his life dealing with New York’s construction trades and union, just knows how to street-fight.
But I do know that his tweets about – we assume this, though he did not specifically name names – Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, ilhan omar, rashida tlaib and Ayanna Pressley, have forced Democrats to come out in support of them.
In other words, “The Squad”, as media are now calling them, are now all over the news. The country has seen who they are and heard what they say. They have, in a very real sense, become the face of the Democrat Party.
So who does this affect? Let’s see.
-Because of his tweets, President Trump is – again – being called a racist, a White supremacist a misogynist and a xenophobe.
In other words, business as usual. Same old same old. This is exactly what the same people were calling him already. We’ve all heard it before.
-But, for Democrats, it is not business as usual. Now, “The Squad” – i.e four first-term house members who call everyone a racist every time they are criticized – including Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and former Vice President/current leading presidential contender Joe Biden – are running the show.
And how does this work out for Democrats?
Well, if you believe the latest polling, not very well.
According to Democrats’ own internal polling (the stuff you’re not supposed to see) Ms. Ocasio-Cortez has an approval rating of 22% – which is terrible – and Ms. omar has an approval ratings of 9% which makes Ocasio-Cortez look great by comparison.
What are they going to do now? Is “The Squad” going to go into their patented routine, and now accuse the entire country of being misogynistic and racist? Against women of color? Equivalent to what they attack Trump, and Pelosi, and Biden, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. for? And, if so, how do you think that will play out among voters?
These four are a “squad”, all right. They’re a death squad for Democrat prospects in 2020.
If Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, ilhan omar, rashida tlaib and Ayanna Pressley are what the country perceives as the present, and future Democrat Party, it is an excellent bet President Trump will not only win re-election, but that he’ll take back a house majority as well.
Did all this come out of his tweets? Seems so, doesn’t it?
I’ll end this blog the way I started it: I don’t know if Donald Trump is a genius, a dummy, the luckiest man on earth or just someone who, having grown up in Jamaica, Queens, then spent his life dealing with New York’s construction trades and union, just knows how to street-fight.
What I do know, however, is that – at least so far – this is working out far better for him and Republicans than it is for Democrats.
Will it last? We’ll see……
