BUYING IMPEACHMENT

Do you know who Tom Steyer is?

If you’re political-junkie enough to read this blog, I’d be surprised if you didn’t.

Tom Steyer is a billionaire who made his money in finance (Farallon Capital, Hellman & Friedman).

That may not come across as the résumé of a far left political activist who is currently trying to buy the impeachment of Donald Trump.  But it is.

You probably have seen Steyer’s demands for Trump’s impeachment on TV, or if you’ve clicked onto youtube.com, or any number of other venues.

Steyer does not, of course, point to any specific charges against Trump, because there are no charges against Trump, only accusations that were fully investigated for years, and resulted in nothing.

But if you’re a hard-leftist who hates Trump, and you’ve got well over a billion dollars to play with?  Who cares.

And now, not content with filling the airwaves and cyberspace, Steyer is spending millions on taking down Democrats who don’t knuckle under to his impeachment obsession.

From Mike Brest’s article at dailycaller.com:

Left-wing billionaire Tom Steyer’s Need To Impeach group announced Monday that they are targeting 12 incumbent Democrats because they haven’t come out in support of impeaching President Donald Trump.

Need to Impeach is targeting Democrats who have not publicly called for the president’s impeachment or for an inquiry into the matter.

Their targets include Democratic politicians who represent prominent leadership and who hold leadership positions on key House committees, lawmakers and representatives from key voting districts. Of the most prominent names are presidential candidate and California Rep. Eric Swalwell; House Majority Whip James Clyburn of South Carolina; House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings of Maryland.

Others include New York Reps. Hakeem Jeffries and Nita Lowey; Florida reps. Debby Mucarsel-Powell and Kathry Castor; California Reps. Lou Correa, Mark Takano and Tony Cardenas, New Mexico Rep. Ben Ray Luján and Michigan Rep. Debbie Dingell, according to The Hill.

Hmmm, a fabulously wealthy political ideologue spending tons of money to force politicians to his views or maybe lose their jobs.  Isn’t that what mainstream media had no problem railing about when it was a right-wing moneybags threatening Republicans?

Well, how much opprobrium have you come across from those same mainstream media when the shoe is on the left foot?

Look, this is still America.  Tom Steyer is free to use his money this way, and the politicians he is threatening are free to do whatever they want as he threatens them.

But let’s not pretend this isn’t happening.  And let’s not pretend that media are reporting it fairly .

The partisan beat goes on…
