MARIO CUOMO R.I.P.

What horrible news. Former three-time Governor of New York Mario Cuomo has died today at the age of 82.  The cause was heart failure. Mr. Cuomo, who died just hours after his son, Andrew, was sworn in for his second term as Governor, leaves four other children, including CNN anchor Chris, radiologist Margaret, Maria, Madeline…and Matilda, his wife of over 50...

LUISE RAINER R.I.P.

Terrible news from the world of entertainment. Luise Rainer, the great German-born actress who became the first actor or actress to win more than one Oscar – and did it in consecutive years, for The Great Ziegfeld in 1936 and The Good Earth in 1937 – died in London on Tuesday, of pneumonia.  Ms. Rainer was just two weeks shy of her 105th birthday. Great...

THE QUOTE OF THE DAY

Not only is this the quote of the day, but – and I know it is January 1st – for sheer humor value this may well be the quote of the year. It comes to us from the New York Times\’s Paul Krugman – an unconditionally leftward columnist, who has certainly amused me in the past.  But this one sets a new standard. Here is how Mr. Krugman characterized himself in an...

THE NEW YORK TIMES: MISINFORMATION & SELECTIVE REPORTING

This one is for anybody who reads the New York Times and thinks he/she is getting an honest, complete, roundup of the news. Here are two reasons you are wrong – just in the past 24 hours: – 1) Yesterday the Times ran a front page story claiming that Republican House Minority Whip, Steve Scalise, “had appeared before a group called the European-American Unity and Rights...

LAURA JOHNSON: REAPPOINTED BY MAYOR DE BLASIO

I\’m sorry to start the new year with ugly news, but things are as they are. laura Johnson has been reappointed by New York Mayor bill deblasio. If you read this blog, you know that johnson is the New York criminal court judge who released the following two “men” without bail in December:  -devon coley: a career criminal with two pending trials who had...

BLEARY……

…but more or less awake again. Very nice New Year\’s eve with friends – first at a restaurant and then at a party.  And happy that, so far as I know, the “protesters” who have spent almost 5 months using Michael Brown, then Eric Garner\’s dead bodies as props to agitate for their agendas did not have any impact last night.  Ok, back to politics.

KEEPING THE PROTEST MOVEMENT ALIVE: A NEW YEAR\’S ALERT

It has been almost 5 months since Michael Brown was shot and killed by Ferguson, Missouri police officer Darren Wilson, and almost a month since Eric Garner died after being taken down by several New York police officers, one of whom briefly (watch the video and see for yourself how long it was) had him in what appeared to be a chokehold. The rioting, the looting, the burning, the general...

A HOLIDAY SEASON DRINKING STORY

This just came to me from my co-author Barry Sinrod. I wonder if you will react the same way to it that I did: Withthe Holidays upon us, I would like to share a personal experiencewith my friends about drinking and driving.  As you mayknow, some people have had brushes with the authoritiesfrom time to time on the way home after drinking with friends.  Well, two days ago...

STEPHEN SCALISE & RACISM (IMPORTANT: UPDATED!!!)

Funny how things work out. I had expected to blog about Republican House Majority Whip Stephen (Steve) Scalise (R-LA) in very negative terms today.  After all, it has just been made public that, in 2002, while a member of the Louisiana State house of representatives, he spoke at a conference of something called the European-American Unity and Rights Organization (EURO)...

THE QUOTE OF THE DAY

Today\’s quote – and I have to tell you I am loving it – is from Phil Griffin, President of MSNBC – a cable network with ratings that started 2014 low, did little but drop further as the year progressed, and are currently somewhere between minuscule and infinitesimal.   What does Mr. Griffin have to say about this?  Not surprisingly, it is an...

THE NEW YORK TIMES\’ CONTINUING WAR ON THE NYPD

Yesterday I commented on what I considered a particularly dense, and/or anti-New York Police Department (NYPD) editorial in the New York Times. Today we have another one. Here are key parts of that editorial – in rust, with my comments in blue: Manymembers of the New York Police Department are furious at Mayor Billde Blasio and, by extension, the city that elected him. They haveexpressed...

ISRAEL PEACE PARTNER UPDATE

Do you know what the latest rage is on Palestinian Arab media?  How about a video on “How To Stab A Jew”?  Excerpted from Jordan Schachtel\’s article at breitbart.com: Avideo being widely circulated in Palestinian social media networksteaches jihadists how to stab a Jewish person in a manner thatensures their speedy death. Thevideo is reportedly being circulated by...

REARRANGING THE SHARPTON CHAIRS ON THE OBAMA

We\’ve all heard the saying “that\’s like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic”, to describe someone paying too much attention to a trivial issue while avoiding the bigger one. Well, we have a classic example today from the Washington Post:  the “fact check” by Michelle Ye Hee Lee (no I am not making that name up), to see if former New York City...
