Hurricane Florence, which, we were told, was going to hit the Carolinas as a Category 4 disaster, has instead weakened and is now Category 2.
The difference is major. A Category 4 hurricane brings winds of 130 – 156 miles per hour; Category 2 is 96 – 110.
A Category 2 hurricane can certainly cause disaster, and there is no guarantee Florence won’t strengthen again.
But, as of now, there is realistic hope that it won’t be nearly as bad as originally predicted.
Let’s hope so.
