My previous post referenced “a remarkable series of events” and said that “this truly is a game-changing day”.

Here’s why:

-The inquiry by Attorney General Bill Barr and United States Attorney John Durham into the ugly, quite probably illegal, activities of “deep state” players during and after the 2016 presidential election, for the purpose of undoing that election and removing Donald Trump from office (think John Brennan, James Clapper, Andrew McCabe, James Comey, Peter Strzok and Lisa Page to name some, but not all) has been elevated to a criminal investigation.  That means Durham can, among other things, issue subpoenas to this bunch and compel them to testify.  It also means he can exert legal pressure on the other, less known players, and get them to “flip” and tell what they know.

In the words of plmedia.com’s Roger L. Simon:

To those of us who have been watching this spectacle from the beginning, this was inevitable. After all, where’d the Mueller/Russia probe come from in the first place? Since there was absolutely no there there, it makes no sense that it wasn’t a fraud from the outset. Who started it? Who are the treasonous/seditious culprits who conspired to overthrow an election? Well, we should soon be finding out, although we can make some educated guesses.

-Inspector General Michael Horowitz has announced that the review of his completed report on the 2016 election is nearly complete.  His report, which is expected to be a damning indictment of the people named above, will therefore be out any day.

-Information has come out that General Michael Flynn’s lawyer, Sidney Powell, filed a devastating brief that potentially blows the lid off of their lies and unethical behavior, resulting in the railroading of General Flynn.

In the words of Margot Cleveland, writing for thefederalist.com:

While the briefing at issue concerns Powell’s motion to compel the government to hand over evidence required by Brady and presiding Judge Emmett Sullivan’s standing order, Powell’s 37-page brief pivots between showcasing the prosecution’s penchant for withholding evidence and exposing significant new evidence the defense team uncovered that establishes a concerted effort to entrap Flynn. Along the way, Powell drops half-a-dozen problems with Flynn’s plea and an equal number of justifications for outright dismissal of the criminal charges against Flynn.

What is most striking, though, is the timeline Powell pieced together from publicly reported text messages withheld from the defense team and excerpts from documents still sealed from public view. The sequence Powell lays out shows that a team of “high-ranking FBI officials orchestrated an ambush-interview of the new president’s National Security Advisor, not for the purpose of discovering any evidence of criminal activity—they already had tapes of all the relevant conversations about which they questioned Mr. Flynn—but for the purpose of trapping him into making statements they could allege as false.”

-A Lindsey Graham-led senate motion condemning the House impeachment inquiry for its lack of transparency was entered just about 24 hours ago.  And it already has 50 co-sponsors (not surprisingly, all Republicans, with 3 more to go – and, who knows, maybe even a Democrat or two (calling Joe Manchin…).

In order to convict on impeachment charges, every Democrat and at least 20 Republicans must vote in favor.

Therefore, unless something huge comes up that we know nothing about as of now, these 50 co-sponsors of Lindsey Graham’s motion make it a virtual certainty that, no matter what the Democrat-controlled house cooks up impeachment-wise, Trump will not be removed from office.

And the day isn’t over yet.

Any questions?

  • I’ve been wondering for a while if Trump isn’t content to keep his powder dry until it gets closer to the election, which is still over a year away. We’ll see eventually what comes of this.
