Trumpidity. It’s a term I started using years ago (though I’m certain other people used it before me) to describe acts of stupidity by President Trump which, unfortunately, have a habit of happening.
And here’s the latest example: Mr. Trump’s tweet regarding an amendment to the Defense Authorization Act that would rename United States forts currently named after Confederate soldiers:
Why would he do this? The amendment has not only Democrat support but appreciable Republican support as well – including, it appears, appreciable military support. As it should.
Personally, I never understood why military installations were ever named after confederate figures. Weren’t they fighting to reject the United States? Secede from it?
And the premise that this was done to celebrate their prowess as soldiers rather than their objectives is, to me, absurd.
They fought AGAINST us. They should not be celebrated BY us. It’s that simple.
I can only hope that President Trump thinks better of this. But given his ego, and his resistance to other people’s advice, I wonder if that’s possible.
We’ll soon find out.
