Fascinating news about the Mexican border – its southern border.
From Maria Verza and Sonia Perez’s article for the Associated Press, via pbs.org:
CIUDAD HIDALGO, Mexico — Hundreds of Central American migrants who waded across a river into Mexico in hopes of eventually reaching the U.S. were sent back to their homeland or retreated across the border Tuesday after Mexican troops blocked their way.
Fewer than 100 remained in the no-man’s-land along the river between Guatemala and Mexico.
The caravan of thousands had set out from Honduras last week in hopes Mexico would grant them passage, posing a fresh test for President Donald Trump’s effort to reduce the flow of migrants arriving at the U.S. border by pressuring other governments to stop them.
Can we agree that this is a major victory for the Trump administration? I am assuming the answer is yes.
Now, will this cause the border protesters to start demanding that countries like Guatemala, and Honduras, and El Salvador, where these illegals are coming from, start treating their populations like human beings, so that they won’t flee to try and live elsewhere illegally?
I am assuming you will agree with me that the answer is no, because they have never done it until now. So why should they start now?
Amazing, isn’t it, that the recipient of criticism over immigration is the United States – the place these people are trying to enter; not the countries they are fleeing from, with corrupt, uncaring governments which have made their lives hell on Earth.
Maybe, just maybe, it is time for protesters to rethink the object of their outrage.
